SUMMARY:Tennessee Stiffs
DESCRIPTION:Tennessee Stiffs of Red Wing\, MN will be joining us Saturday\, March 2nd at 7pm! \nDoors: 6:30 \nShow: 7:00pm \nTickets: $13 advance/$15 day of show \nMeet The Stiffs: \nThe Stiffs—who hail not from the Volunteer State but that other roots-music Mecca\, Austin\, TX—dip their bucket deep into the well of American music. Warped lo-fi folk gives way to frenetic honky-tonk riff rock and gutbucket country; forlorn Americana anthems resound off Texas hillsides\, and blazing Southern rock screeches like tires on the last lap of a cup-winning speedway run. Formed in late 2011 and fueled by their eclectic musical interests\, co-founders-turned-married-couple Ethan Lee and Cara B were determined to create something never heard before.Cara’s melodies range from hauntingly beautiful to wildly soulful. Blended with Lee’s foot-stomping rhythms and gravelly vocals\, the two take the “Beauty and the Beast” standard to heart. In the beginning\, the duo spent their time writing tunes and performing intimate shows\, often using old books and a hat containing lines of poetry as inspiration. Each song’s characters are vividly constructed and personal\, allowing for the listener to relate. For many years\, they performed and toured as a five piece featuring Austin musicians\, meandering onto live radio shows\, podcasts and were featured in several music festivals. In 2022\, the release of the highly anticipated third album\, a concept collection called “Dearly Departed” goes deeper still\, dredging up minor-key Southern-gothic circus waltzes\, spaghetti-Western vampire shuffles\, and the kind of fuzz-drenched blues you’d hear wafting from a Detroit garage. The album picked up PR with Glide Magazine\, Parade Magazine\, Americana UK and Ditty TV to name a few.Fast forward to 2023\, Cara and Lee sold the band van and re-located to Red Wing MN\, continuing their musical endeavor as a duo/trio with local percussionist and vocalist Jake Ricks. They’ve been featured on The Current\, and continue to make their way around the region with sway.

SUMMARY:Taylor James Donskey with Johanna Mathews
DESCRIPTION:You’re not going to want to miss this one. Two talented solo singer-songwriters\, Taylor James Donskey and Johanna Mathews take the Big River Theatre stage July 22nd\, starting at 7pm. \nAdvance tickets just $10! \nTickets go up to $15 day of show. \n  \nMeet the artists: \nTaylor James Donskey \nTaylor James Donskey is a lover and writer of songs. He is known for his work in the Minneapolis/St.Paul music scene as a side-man bassist\, music instructor\, host and soloist. He works to foster growth & connection through music. His songs tell stories of the everyday folks; stories set in the comfortable American styles of folk\, alt-country\, rock and indie. \nAbsorbing the sounds of the many bands he’s played in The Lowland Lakers\, Lena Elizabeth\, The Gentlemen’s Anti-Temperance League\, Barbaro\, Donskey has carved a unique spot for himself in the Twin Cities music scene that includes elements of pop\, bluegrass\, folk and jazz. \nRaised in La Crosse\, Wisconsin and influenced by his time in the Driftless Region\, he picked up the bass at 14 and began his life as a sideman. He played in pop punk bands and school jazz combos. He sang in choirs and played trumpet\, trombone\, percussion and most importantly\, the bass. This led him to playing paid gigs in high school\, sitting in with his uncle’s cover band. \nRecognizing his talent\, his uncle gave him a Sigma acoustic guitar. “He bought it in the seventies\, and I’ve continued to play it. A relentless old companion\, it has followed me wherever I go\, and it is the instrument from which many of my songs have grown.” \nJohanna Mathews \nBorn and raised in Minnesota\, Johanna Mathews has been performing her original songs at some of the top venues throughout the Twin Cities for over 10 years. Her music is haunting\, soulful\, and contemplative. She seeks to create a space for processing what we feel but may not have words to express. She has released one indie-folk EP\, titled Hank (her childhood nickname)\, and plans to release more music soon!
