SUMMARY:Jason Dea West & The Siskiyou Crest
DESCRIPTION:Jason Dea West & the Siskiyou Crest joins us at Big River Theatre Sunday\, August 17th at 7pm! \n  \nDoors: 6:30pm \nShow: 7:00pm \nTickets: $15 advance/$20 \n  \nMeet Jason: \nResiding in the remote Applegate Valley in the Siskiyou mountain range of Oregon\, Jason Dea West is an American troubadour who sings what he lives and lives what he sings. His poignant lyrics are brilliantly blended with vintage country\, folk and blues\, and timely sensibilities. From epic guitar and harmonica instrumentals to humorous song as story\, he never strays far from the anarchic punk-folk roots of his beloved former band Barefoot Surrender –with Benjamin Tod of Lost Dog Street Band and more – and his celebrated current band\, Intuitive Compass. West’s younger days as a busker and freight train hopper fostered his keen sense of road-inspired American musical history. He toured extensively with guest musicians and bands throughout the lower forty-eight states and Alaska\, appearing in barn dances and taverns\, theaters and music festivals\, the circus and vaudeville circuits\, on radio and in film. He has shared the stage with the likes of Larry and His Flask\, Lost Dog Street Band\, Hot Damn Scandal\, Lucas Hicks\, The Crux\, Carl Kummerlei\, and countless others. \nDea West has worked with several renowned recording engineers\, including Scot Hackwith\, Dennis Dragon\, and Steven Hart\, producing six studio albums\, each of which has its own strange story and style. He belongs to the wild lands and what is left of the American countryside. \n  \nCheck out some music here:

SUMMARY:Steam Machine
DESCRIPTION:Steam Machine of Minneapolis joins us Sunday\, September 14th at 7pm! \n  \nDoors: 6:30 pm \nShow: 7pm \nTickets: $15 advance/$20 day of show \n  \nMeet the band: \nSteam Machine is an old time/bluegrass project fronted by award winning fiddler AJ Srubas and Twin Cities old time music & dance instigator Rina Rossi on guitar. A shortlist of spectacular musicians perform with the band on banjo and bass. Originally formed in Minneapolis in 2017\, Steam Machine brought to the national stage a midwest influenced string band aesthetic that didn’t draw such hard lines between bluegrass and old time music. Two time Appalachian String Band Music Festival (Clifftop) Traditional Band Contest finalists and Folk Alliance Midwest Official Showcase Artists\, since 2018 they have been performing at diverse venues from roots music hubs to bluegrass and Americana festivals\, and teaching workshops at traditional music epicenters across the country from the Augusta Heritage Center (WV) to Festival of American Fiddle Tunes (WA)\, collecting ribbons along the way. At home in Minneapolis\, they are heavily involved as organizers in many of the local community old time and bluegrass institutions. While not purists\, Steam Machine does listen closely to the “old stuff” and strives to capture the essence of what makes these tunes and songs special\, as they hear it. The project continues to be an evolving vehicle for playing music they love and honoring the brilliance left behind by musical heroes like Lyman Enloe\, Cyril Stinnett and more. In 2018 they released their first album\, self-titled Steam Machine. In spring 2023\, AJ and Rina released a duo project\, Sweet Bunch of Daisies. Both releases are available on bandcamp. A new full band record is in the works. \n“simply put\, Steam Machine is a supergroup\, one with intertwined musical relationships that create a chemistry so much more profound than four disparate musicians coming together. Steam Machine’s renditions seem faithful and classic\, so it’s hard to explain how they’re playing feels bright and fresh. You can step back and be impressed by their artistry\, but you might instead wind up just swept away in enjoyment because they make it seem effortless and look like they’re having so much fun.” – Adventures in Americana \n  \nCheck ’em out! \n\n

SUMMARY:Joe & Vicki Price
DESCRIPTION:Joe & Vicki are BACK! We are thrilled to welcome these two bluesey lovebirds to the Big River Theater stage once more Saturday\, October 18\, at 7pm. \n  \nSaturday\, October 18th \nDoors: 7pm \nShow: 6:30pm \nTickets: $15 advance/$20 day of show \n  \nMeet Joe & Vicki: \nIn a world where words like “legend” get thrown around entirely too lightly\, it’s good to know that there are a few people still worthy of the word’s original intent. And when it comes to music in Iowa\, Joe Price stands as one of the art’s legendary practitioners. \nArmed with a joyous\, disarming demeanor and the ability to play the doors off most anyone else in the room\, Price has opened for the likes of Iris Dement and John Lee Hooker\, while Iowa’s own Greg Brown calls Price “the Buddha.” Brown isn’t alone in his praise\, as a litany of Iowa musicians list Price as one of their influences. \nPrice’s reputation was cemented in the 1970’s\, when he spent the latter half of the decade as part of Mother Blues\, one of the greatest and most heavily influential Iowa blues bands of all time. It was a time when Price was playing nearly non-stop\, and developed the style that has made him such a memorable performer. \nAnd make no mistake\, Price certainly is memorable. Head down while he plays\, big ball cap covering his eyes from the crowd while he plies his trade\, feet tapping out the time as his hands work those six strings like their on autopilot. Price isn’t the kind of artist you “think” you’ve seen play; once you’ve been taken to church by that slide\, it stays with you. \nBut no man lives by bread alone\, and Price has two great loves in his life. It’s the rare man that gets to mix two passions together and make a life out of it\, but Vicki Price makes that easy. The pair married in 1987\, but Vicki had been holding her own in the wilds of small-town Iowa before then. Her guitar playing has more structure to it than Joe’s\, while her voice provides a good deal of their songs fire. \nBold and brassy when she wants to be\, Vicki’s voice has elicited visions of Loretta Lynn or June Carter\, but she’s able to get far bluesier than any of her most obvious comparisons. This duo is far more than the sum of their impressive parts: it is when these two take the stage together that the genuine magic happens. \nJoe’s deep love and admiration for his wife is obvious from the moment she joins him on stage—something that can happen at any point during a set; he beckons her with “You Are My Sunshine”—and the amount of fun they clearly have performing with one another elevates their performances\, transforming them from something that blues purists and guitar fans can appreciate\, into something that everyone with ears and a love of life can understand and tap along to. \nJoe and Vicki are both members of the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame. Their 2009 album “Rain or Shine” won the Independent Music Award for best Blues CD of the year.  Joe is also a member of the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was a finalist in the International Blues Challenge. \nThe couple released a slew of solo CD’s  on seminal Iowa label Trailer Records\, including “25 Below” (Joe\, 1996)\, “Mississippi Summer” (Vicki\, 1998)\, “Request” (Joe\, 1999)\, “Designated Drive” (Joe\, 2000) and “Looking for Love” (Vicki\, 2005). After Trailer closed up shop\, the pair released 2008’s “A Brand New Place” and 2009’s “Rain or Shine” independently. The latter two albums were both lavished with critical praise\, but the pair may have just saved their best work for their most recent album\, “Night Owls.” Featuring both Joe and Vicki throughout\, “Night Owls” is the Price’s music at its fullest\, most memorable and most fun. \nWhether you are seeing them for the first time or the 100th\, whether it’s live or via one of their albums\, experiencing Joe and Vicki Price is an experience worth having\, worth sharing\, and easy to love.

SUMMARY:The Invisible Mammal
DESCRIPTION:This just in – we will be showing “The Invisible Mammal”\, a documentary about bats\, Wednesday\, October 29th at 7pm – Just in time for Halloween! \n\nIf possible\, please purchase your tickets using the link below. If that’s not possible for you\, don’t worry! Come on down and we will make it work.\nWe are showing this film through a platform called Kinema\, and that is the easiest way for us to get the ticket sales directly to the independent filmmakers who made it!\n\n  \nAbout the film: An all-woman team of biologists set out to save bats from a deadly fungal disease\, but when the COVID-19 pandemic interrupts their work\, they are sent down a path of discovery that illuminates the connections between bat conservation and the spread of infectious disease. \nAll around us\, roosting in trees or crevices\, or silently migrating through our neighborhoods\, bats go unseen. And now\, at a time when bats have been blamed for causing a global pandemic\, a new documentary about bat conservation will dispel myths about how pandemics are caused and spread\, while also illustrating how bats’ super-immunity may hold a key to our own survival\, but only if we can save them from a disease threatening their very existence. \n

SUMMARY:Kelly Hunt & Kelley Smith
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to welcome back the Kell(e)ys! \nSaturday\, November 8th • 7pm \nDoors: 6:30pm \nTickets: $15/$20 \n  \nMeet Kelly Hunt: \nThe daughter of an opera singer and a saxophonist\, Hunt was raised in Memphis\, TN amidst a motley mélange of musical influences ranging from Rachmaninov to Joni Mitchell to Mississippi John Hurt. She grew up singing in choirs\, poring over poetry books\, and writing her own music as a matter of course\, first on piano then 5-string banjo. After being introduced to the banjo in college while studying French and visual arts\, Hunt began to develop her own improvised style of playing\, combining old-time picking styles with the percussive origins of the instrument. After college\, Hunt embarked on a rambling path through career pursuits in farming\, French breadmaking\, and visual arts\, ultimately landing in Kansas City\, where she would go on to write and record her debut album\, Even the Sparrow. \nWhile reminiscent of modern traditionalists such as Gillian Welch\, Even The Sparrow reveals an ineffable quality that hovers beyond the constraints of genre\, à la Anais Mitchell and Patty Griffin. Over the span of a dozen songs\, Hunt’s penchant for storytelling and intriguing arrangement cast a spell which No Depression describes as “the musical equivalent of a book you can’t put down\, one you’ll want to revisit again and again to catch every nuance and turn of phrase.” \nIn “Men of Blue & Grey\,” what begins as a Reconstruction-era ballad about the repurposing of Civil War glass plate negatives in a greenhouse roof soon becomes a meditation on the hope that growth and life may one day be able to emerge from the ruins of suffering and haunting of violence. “Across The Great Divide” turns an otherwise traditional accounting of spurned love into a philosophical epic of the ethics of forgiveness and freedom\, evoking the ideas of Søren Kierkegaard and Walt Whitman. \nAs for the original owner of Kelly Hunt’s mysterious tenor banjo\, not much is known. “I’ve never been able to find anything about Ira Tamm\,” she says\, “I think he just had a humble little traveling show.” What’s clear is that the itinerant performer laid down his banjo at the height of the Great Depression\, almost eighty years before it would be picked up by Hunt. “That banjo has stories. I wish I knew them all\,” says Hunt\, though the banjo’s most intriguing story may just be beginning with Even The Sparrow. “The marks of Ira’s hands are still in the calfskin head\, so I can see where he played and left his mark\,” she says. “Now my own marks are there too\, in different places\, like a kind of portrait.” \nKelly’s sophomore album “Ozark Symphony\,” (produced by Dirk Powell at his Cypress House studio in Breaux Bridge\, Louisiana)\, was released on Compass Records in October\, 2023. \n  \n\n  \nMeet Kelley Smith: \nFolksinger/songwriter Kelley Smith is a hopeless romantic who fancies old poetry and grandpa sweaters. All at once whimsical and haunting\, Smith delivers deeply affecting lyrics with wry charm and a time traveler’s voice. Prone to melancholy and daydreaming\, Kelley spent her childhood roaming the woods of Minnesota and singing to forest animals. To this day\, her longing for that landscape runs deep and seems to find its way into her songs in one way or another. \nRaised by musicians\, Smith always had music in her bones\, but it wasn’t until she was 40 and a mother of four that her first record\, Moon Child (2022)\, came to be. As an insomniac\, she wrote this first batch of songs by moonlight. They evoke a sense of belonging\, juxtaposed with escapism\, as she croons about long-term love\, grief\, and her draw to the night sky. \nSince 2022\, Kelley has had the honor of sharing stages with folks such as Charlie Parr\, Kelly Hunt\, Wild Horses\, Dave Simonett\, Alan Sparhawk\, Stephen Wilson Jr.\, and many others. Most often performing solo or as a duo\, Smith interprets old folk songs on guitar and banjo\, in addition to her original music. \n\n

SUMMARY:Big River Theater Local Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:We know that good art doesn’t have to be imported\, so we are putting a spotlight on the talented artists that are right here in the area! \nThis local show will feature Dowser\, made up of John Kurtis Dehn\, John Strei on drums and percussion\, and Vicki Dischler on bass and vocals \n  \nMeet John Kurtis Dehn (Dowser) \n\n\n\n\nRaised on a dairy farm north of the Twin Cities\, John got his first guitar for Christmas when he was 7 and ingesting TV shows like Hee-Haw and the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. By junior high\, he was writing songs on a nylon string guitar he purchased for $75 from Shopper’s City. In high school. Bands were formed\, mostly playing the music that he and his friends idolized: Young\, Springsteen\, The Clash\, The Pretenders\, Petty. Music became the way for John to “get it out.” \nThroughout life\, music would sometimes take a back seat but it was never out of his mind or heart. Playing with bands like Oren Goby\, Cosmoline\, and then a 10-year stint playing guitar\, banjo\, and mandolin with Bernie King & The Guilty Pleasures kept the fire stoked. In 2020 much of that band relocated to warmer climates and John decided it was time to showcase his own original tunes. In 2022 he released his first full-length album\, Shovel and Hole. \nDehn’s original songs contain shades of Tom Waits\, Jackson Browne\, and The Waterboys. His melodies and lyrics can be haunting or playful\, but always leave something for the listener to mull over. His solo album “Shovel & Hole” can be previewed on this website or streamed on Bandcamp\, Apple Music and Spotify. \n\n\n\n\nhttps://johnkurtisdehn.com/ \n

SUMMARY:Taylor James Donskey & Nikki Lemire
DESCRIPTION:A special performance is coming up Saturday\, February 7th at 7pm – it’s Taylor James Donskey (guitar\, vocals) and Nikki Lemire (harp\, vocals). \nSaturday\, February 7th • 7pm \nTickets: \nAdult:$17/$20 \nYouth: 1/2 price \nKids 10&under ALWAYS FREE \n  \nMeet Nikki Lemire: An accomplished harpist\, keyboardist\, and backing vocalist\, Nikki Lemire has performed and recorded with award-winning songwriters Molly Maher\, Sarah Morris\, Matthew French\, Emily Haavik\, Charlie Parr\, and Taylor James Donksey. She has also collaborated with multiple bands including The International Treasures (Midwest Country Music Song of the Year Nominee)\, The Josh Cleveland Band (The Voice)\, The Twins of Franklin\, The Foxgloves (MCMO Americana Artist of the Year Nominee)\, and Katy Tessman and the Turnbuckles resulting in a catalogue of music that brings the pedal harp to unusual unexpected genres of Bluegrass\, Pop and Folk.  \nNikki Lemire spins her life around her music\, making space to perform in multiple fields and genres. Her songwriting features her expressive vocals over layered and hypnotic accompaniment. She dives deep into moving themes surrounding motherhood\, love and loss.  \nEmploying modern harp techniques\, loop and electric pedals\, her songs sit somewhere between the old folk bedrock of Joan Baez\, the musical innovation of Joni Mitchell\, and the influential pop stylings of Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. Nikki artfully shapes the music to her words\, creating a sound that refuses to adhere to any one particular genre\, somehow feeling old and new at the same time. \nNikki performs as a solo artist and with her four piece all-female band of fiddle\, upright bass and hand drums weaving intricate textures and harmonies within her luscious soundscape.  \nAs featured on Smouse in the House for Adventures in Americana\, Nikki reflects on her musical roots and the legacy passed down through her family. She shares how music has become a thread connecting generations — from her own childhood to her children today — and how performing and storytelling remain central to her connection with community and family. \nListen Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFhQOR-bgS4 \nhttps://nikkilemiremusic.com/home \nMeet TJD: \nTaylor James Donskey is a lover and writer of songs. He is known for his work in the Minneapolis/St.Paul music scene as a side-man bassist\, music instructor\, host and soloist. He works to foster growth & connection through music. His songs tell stories of the everyday folks; stories set in the comfortable American styles of folk\, alt-country\, rock and indie. \nAbsorbing the sounds of the many bands he’s played in The Lowland Lakers\, Lena Elizabeth\, The Gentlemen’s Anti-Temperance League\, Barbaro\, Donskey has carved a unique spot for himself in the Twin Cities music scene that includes elements of pop\, bluegrass\, folk and jazz. \nRaised in La Crosse\, Wisconsin and influenced by his time in the Driftless Region\, he picked up the bass at 14 and began his life as a sideman. He played in pop punk bands and school jazz combos. He sang in choirs and played trumpet\, trombone\, percussion and most importantly\, the bass. This led him to playing paid gigs in high school\, sitting in with his uncle’s cover band. \n“I had to learn nearly two hours of rock cover songs\,” Donskey says. Playing music by Bowie\, Petty\, Harrison and McCartney left its mark. “A lot of that music had incredible bass lines like I’d never really heard. It really inspired me.” \nRecognizing his talent\, his uncle gave him a Sigma acoustic guitar. “He bought it in the seventies\, and I’ve continued to play it. A relentless old companion\, it has followed me wherever I go\, and it is the instrument from which many of my songs have grown.” \nHis next step is the sophomore album “JoyRide” which literally hits the gas as an exciting ride through the classic rock idioms. \nWhen not busy performing his own music or touring\, he teaches ukulele\, piano\, electric bass\, upright bass\, guitar\, songwriting\, music theory and voice. \n“Teaching is my great joy\,” he says. “I’ve watched my students grow into far more intelligent creatures than I. I am endlessly excited for what they do next” \nTaylor is also the songwriter and creative force behind the group Darling Lily Gave. \nListen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr7KOvXw9ek \nhttps://taylorjamesdonskey.com/ \n

SUMMARY:An Evening of Collaborative Music Featuring: Luke Callen\, Old Pup\, & The Nunnery
DESCRIPTION:We welcome you to enjoy the evening of collaborative music that will blend folk songwriting and storytelling with cosmic country\, dream pop\, and live looping. Brought to you by Luke Callen\, Old Pup\, The Nunnery\, Simon Cropp and Chris Gray.  \n  \nMeet the band: \nThe Nunnery begins with one voice\, layered upon itself becoming a lush soundscape.\nSarah Elstran is an independent musician that bridges the gap between bright-eyed pop composition and hands-on atmospheric live layering of voice. Her vocal loops give us the kind of detail and wide multi-octave range that we might come to expect from a marquee pop star\, while her production decisions continually keep us guessing as to what rabbit holes her tracks might fall into next. \nLuke Callen: At the intersection of Harry Smith’s Old Weird America – the songs of heartworn highways – and the tumult of today you can find the music of Luke Callen. The songs – equal parts tragic comedy and hopeless reverie – paint a picture of the places and people that make up his earthly home. A poet – a player – a folk singer – Luke has traversed his country unraveling tall tales – short tunes and all that’s hidden underneath.\nLuke has played hundreds of shows spanning both coasts\, the American West\, South\, and Heartland. He has had the opportunity to provide support for Dom Flemons\, Dead Horses\, The Dustbowl Revival\, Kacy & Clayton\, James McMurtry\, Whiskey Shivers\, Charlie Parr\, The Lowest Pair\, The Last Revel\, Lilly Hiatt\, Chicago Farmer\, and Robbie Fulks among others. He is a regular performer at the Historic Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Okemah\, OK – the progressive environmental festival Salmon Fest in Ninilchik\, AK\, as well as the regional indie Midwest Music Fest in La Crosse & Winona. \nIn 2022\, Old Pup—the pet project of Milwaukee multi-instrumentalist Will Hansen—introduced listeners to its winning mixture of psych\, folk\, and country with the release of Incognito Lounge. That impressive debut was followed by a steady diet of live outings and an underlying uncertainty about exactly how Hansen and his rotating cast of collaborators might possibly follow up that album. On Friday\, May 3\, Old Pup surprised its budding fan base by releasing a new EP with no advance notice. Even more surprising than that unannounced EP drop is the content of the release itself.

SUMMARY:Louis Michot
DESCRIPTION:Louisiana’s Louis Michot is coming for Big River Theatre! His impressive bio is worth a read. \nFriday\, March 6 • 7pm \nTickets:\nAdult: $17/$20\nYouth 11-17: 1/2 price\nKids 10&under ALWAYS FREE \n  \nMeet Louis: \nLouis Michot \nLouis Michot is best known as the fiddle player and lead singer for the Lost Bayou Ramblers\, but his passions for Louisiana French\, local folklore\, and sustainability in the fastest-disappearing landmass in the world are what fuel his career as a musician. With two Grammy Awards\, six film scores and over 20 LPs under his belt\, his music career continues to push the boundaries of Louisiana French music traditions. \nIn 2025\, Louis embarks on his first major solo tours\, supporting the release of SEAUXLEAUX\, an audio and video album recorded at Dockside Studio by Tony Daigle. The recordingrepresents Louis’ live solo shows\, a dynamic performance featuring guitar\, fiddle\, voice and an effected-samples stomp box\, with a collection of songs that tell his stories and those of the Louisiana French experience. The SEAUXLEAUX tour will visit both U.S. coasts\, along with shows in the South beyond his artistic home of New Orleans\, with 30 dates across the U.S. and Canada\, scheduled between tours with the Lost Bayou Ramblers and Louis Michot & SWAMP MAGIC\, as well as collaborations with Leyla McCalla and other Louisiana artists. \nIn 2024\, the Lost Bayou Ramblers kicked off the year with their second Grammy win for Live: Orpheum Theater NOLA\, a collaboration with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Louis also received six nominations in New Orleans’s Best of the Beat Awards\, including Artist of the Year\, Album of the Year\, and Song of the Year for “Boscoyo Fleaux. \n” He rang in the Mardi Gras season as king of the Krewe of Joan of Arc\, then entered his second year performing with Louis Michot & SWAMP MAGIC\, a four-piece band featuring Michot on fiddle\, accordion\, guitar\, and vocals; Evan Ceaser on drums; the Ramblers’ Jonny Campos on pedal steel; and Bryan Webre on bass\, synths\, and samples. Rêve du Troubadour\, Michot’s solo debut\, released in 2023\, includes special guests: Nigerien Tuareg guitarist Bombino and critically acclaimed singer and multi-instrumentalist Leyla McCalla. He began work on the album by tracking original songs in his dry-docked houseboat\, Sister Ray\, during lockdown. Recording was completed at Mark Bingham’s Piety Studio\, engineered and mixed by the Ramblers’ Kirkland Middleton. In 2021\, Michot faced the unique challenge of trying to perform live during a pandemic\, while also leading hurricane-relief efforts (covered in a Rolling Stone article\, “Can This Cajun-Punk Musician Protect His Culture From Climate Change?”) and raised funds to provide solar panels and generators to homes in rural Louisiana after Hurricane Ida (covered in The New Yorker’s “The Lost Bayou Ramblers Get Lit”). \nLouis was named Louisianian of the Year in 2020\, alongside his brother\, Andre. The previous year\, the Lost Bayou Ramblers celebrated their 20th anniversary with a live album and documentary DVD release\, Asteur/On Va Continuer. The documentary aired around the world on the Francophone television network TV5Monde. This followed their first Grammy win\, for 2017’s Kalenda. A few years earlier\, Louis’s singing and playing were featured in the score for the Oscar-nominated film Beasts of the Southern Wild. \nListen here: https://youtu.be/r6sJFl2-yvA?si=LFdthwzQ2Fqi5M-i

SUMMARY:Kray Van Kirk
DESCRIPTION:Join us after your day at Fire in the Shire for the lovely voice and lyrically driven Kray van Kirk!\n\nSaturday\, June 6 • 7pm\nTickets:\nAdults: $15/$18\nYouth 11-17: 1/2 price\nKids 10&under ALWAYS FREE\n\nFolk Americana with Celtic roots\, aimed at new stories and new myths for the 21st century so that absolutely everyone\, of all identities and histories\, can know they have a verse in the shouted poetry of dawn. \n—————————————————————————————————————————–\n\n\nThe room was almost empty after Van Kirk’s show at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh\, Scotland. A man with shirt-sleeves rolled up in the August heat walked over to him and stood hesitantly for a moment before thrusting out his hand. \n“I use to sing for my wife in the evenings\, but she has dementia now and doesn’t remember me. That song about the lost lovers and the dance hall…” \nHe stopped for a moment before his Scottish reserve reasserted itself. \n“I really liked that one.” \nA fine finger-style guitarist with a precise baritone\, Kray Van Kirk has a Ph.D. from the University of Alaska\, but he set science aside to write songs\, tell stories and summon heroes. \n“We are driven by myth and the seasons of the heart\,” he says\, “and the stories are all true. There is a dark cave inside each of us\, and monsters of all kinds lurk there\, all the more lethal for being hidden. The quest is to journey inside\, render the monsters powerless\, find whatever it is that burns at the core of your soul and bring it back into the light. In a world divided it is critical to write songs and tell stories that show absolutely everyone they get to be the hero. Nobody is left behind.” \nThus his songs: Thunderbird resurrects the Phoenix in an empty desert diner in the American Southwest (yes\, the Phoenix drives a Thunderbird)\, The Queen of Elfland plucks Thomas the Rhymer from the English-Scottish border in 1250 and drops him and the Queen into a subway car\, The Library Song has Superman moonlighting among the stacks\, Rosa and Hector ride through Sherwood Forest on canes and a wheelchair\, and The Midnight Commander celebrates an insane old man leading the city of New York to take up arms (and underwear) against hatred. \nOf this charming\, Quixotic\, and decidedly eclectic performer\, the Borderline Folk Club in New York wrote “it is what every singer-songwriter should aspire to. \n\n\n\nLIVE CONCERT VIDEO FROM CAFFE LENA w/ Joe Jencks:\nhttps://krayvankirk.com/video\nhttps://krayvankirk.com/video_2\n\nLast release was a live concert CD\, Kray Van Kirk – Live at the Acorn.  Selected as Album of the Month by Transatlantic Conversations on CelticMusicRadio.net – krayvankirk.com/acorn\n\nI’ve a number of shows in MN and WI this coming April\, but nothing closer to you than Minneapolis\, which is a wee bit of a drive for you to come out. :-p\n\n Thanks so much!\n Kray Van Kirk\n\n“what every singer-songwriter should aspire to”\n Borderline Folk Club\, New York\n\n “An enviable body of songs.. an intelligent and gifted writer.”\n Bob Leslie\, Transatlantic Conversations\n CelticMusicRadio.net\n\n “The singer-songwriter\, in his Edinburgh debut\, was not the reason I arrived early but was certainly why I stayed late”\nDaily Fringe Review\, Edinburgh\, Scotland\n\n“Every time I play cuts off The Midnight Commander\, listeners ask ‘Who’s that?’ It’s Kray Van Kirk and there’s none like him.”\n Auntmama\n‘Sunday Folks’ DJ\, KBCS\n Seattle\, WA
